WELCOME TO BAKERGORDONSYMPOSIUM.COM

With aesthetic surgery becoming the primary focus of plastic surgery today, an increasing volume of patients are seeking both surgical and non-surgical alternatives for cosmetic enhancement. With such great demand and so many treatment options available, it can be difficult for both patient and physician to choose the best solution for a particular aesthetic problem.  Patients continue to seek simpler procedures which minimize morbidity while producing consistent results. The public’s increasing awareness regarding aesthetic enhancement places a great professional burden on all physicians performing both cosmetic surgery and cosmetic medicine to understand and master the expanding number of treatment modalities available for our patients. While there are many seemingly different technical approaches for aesthetic enhancement, in our opinion, the critical ingredient to consistent results lies in understanding the essential components which all successful techniques share.

The theme of this year’s symposium is defining the essential elements of contrasting approaches for aesthetic enhancement of the face, eyelids and breast, as well as updating the current advances in cosmetic medicine. To this aim we have invited some of the foremost educators in plastic surgery, oculoplastic surgery and dermatology to share with our audience their experiences, concepts and techniques.

The first day of the meeting we will examine SIMPLIFYING APPROACHES TO LOWER LID BLEPHAROPLASTY, emphasizing the role of CANTHOPLASTY, FAT MANAGEMENT, and ORBICULARIS PRESERVATION in producing consistent results. Discussions will be followed by a live demonstration of UPPER AND LOWER BLEPHAROPLASTY WITH TRANSPALPEBRAL CORRGUTOR RESECTION. Later on Thursday afternoon we will switch our focus to advances in cosmetic medicine, examining minimally invasive alternatives in shaping and rejuvenation. Specifically, we will discuss ALTERNATIVES IN NON-SURGICAL FAT REMOVAL, as well as NON-INVASIVE SKIN TIGHTENING TECHNOLOGY. We will also examine the array of soft tissue fillers which are currently available, including RESTYLANE®, JUVEDERM™, PERLANE®, RADIANCE®, as well as AUTOLOGOUS FAT INJECTION FOR FACIAL AUGMENTATION.

Friday’s program will focus on FACIAL REJUVENATION, and will feature the 42nd Baker Gordon Symposium keynote speaker, Dr. Francoise Firmin, who will share with us her personal evolution regarding the AESTHETIC CONSIDERATIONS IN EAR RECONSTRUCTION AND LESSONS FOR AESTHETIC SURGERY.

This will be followed by a discussion on facial aging and the significance of facial fat compartments in facial deflation, followed by an examination of the causes and preventions of surgical distortion in face lifting. The program will then shift to emphasize technical approaches for the difficult face lift, including lateral SMASectomy in the male face lift patient, as well as variations in the MACS technique. Prevention of facial nerve injuries as well as the role of the HARMONIC SCALPEL in face lifting will also be discussed. Following the didactic lectures on Friday morning, the afternoon program will feature a live demonstration of a MALE FACE LIFT, plus interactive videos on THE HARMONIC SCALPEL IN FACE LIFTING as well as THE MACS TECHNIQUE IN FACE LIFTING.

Saturday’s program will focus on CONTROVERSIES IN BREAST AUGMENTATION, as well as MASTOPEXY AUGMENTATION along with Point/Counterpoint Discussions regarding incision selection, implant selection, pocket dissection, postoperative recovery, and re-operation rate. We will also look at the status of AUTOLOGOUS FAT BREAST AUGMENTATION both in aesthetic as well as reconstructive breast surgery, examining patient selection, patient safety and long term result.  The morning’s session will then be followed by a live demonstration of MASTOPEXY AUGMENTATION, as well as interactive videos on PRIMARY BREAST AUGMENTATION WITH 24 HOUR RECOVERY, AUTOLOGOUS FAT INJECTION FOR BREAST AUGMENTATION AND MASTOPEXY AUGMENTATION.

In the tradition of the Baker Gordon Symposium, we have limited our faculty in an attempt to allow focus on interactive interchange between faculty, hosts and audience. The tradition of combining academic didactics with live demonstrations by masters in plastic surgery has always been the hallmark of the Baker Gordon Symposium. Hopefully, this year’s meeting will continue our tradition of excellence in aesthetic surgery education.
